👉The Norwegian Polar Institute in Tromsø invites applications for a permanent position as Research Scientist in Physical Oceanography.
👉The position is linked to the institute’s work on oceanographic research and monitoring in the Arctic Ocean and will be part of major national and international initiatives, including The Arctic Ocean 2050ch and the International Polar Year.
👉The position is based in the Oceanography Section of the Research Department. The section works on physical oceanography and marine biogeochemistry with a focus on the polar ocean areas in the Fram Strait, the Arctic Ocean, and the Southern Ocean north of Dronning Maud Land in Antarctica. The section carries out extensive cruise-based and observational activities in polar regions, including the maintenance and further development of long-term observational time series, the use of fixed instrument moorings and autonomous platforms, and analyses based on satellite remote sensing and numerical modelling.
👉The workplace is Tromsø. The position involves participation in research cruises in polar regions, as well as some travel related to conferences, collaboration and research communication.
